Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math

If you’re driven by discovery and innovation, NYU offers world-class programs in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Environmental science is the scientific study of the ways in which biological, physical, and chemical components of the environment interact, and the relations between them. The intrinsically cross-disciplinary character of science-technology-society interactions is reflected in the B.A. requirements.

NCSES collects its own data on science, technology, and innovation (STI) activities and also incorporates data from other agencies to produce indicators that are used for monitoring purposes – including comparisons among sectors, regions, and with other countries – and for identifying trends that may require policy attention and generate research needs.

During that decade, two works appeared en seriatim that signaled what Steve Woolgar was to call the “turn to technology”: Social Shaping of Technology (MacKenzie and Wajcman, 1985) and The Social Construction of Technological Systems (Bijker, Hughes and Pinch, 1987).

The College of Science and Technology strives to implement a strong educational pathway for students through a comprehensive dedication to quality teaching, research, and service. In-depth study of selected topics in science, technology, and society with special attention to methodological issues.

Oceanography, one of the important four branches of Earth Science , is the study of the oceans. We have particularly strong ties with the Minnesota Center for Philosophy of Science, the Department of History, and the science and engineering departments where the faculty hold tenure. At least two of the student’s three electives must be drawn from one of the focus clusters: science and society, technology and society, or medicine and society.

Majors must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours in STS courses, listed below, together with at least 15 credit hours in any traditional academic discipline: engineering, physical or life science, the humanities, or the social sciences. Study of science evolved with the civilization of human beings.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, East Asian Science, Technology and Society: An International Journal (EASTS) aims to bring together East Asian and Western scholars from the fields of science, technology, and society (STS). 3) Consistent positive reinforcement by STEM teachers of their female students, with a positive expectation of outcome, will assist them in hanging in there during those difficult beginning weeks when they have not yet developed a technology schema or hands-on proficiency and everything they undertake seems like a huge challenge.

Majors take four core classes in STS: philosophy, history, and either public policy or anthropology of science and technology. Without society then there would be no science and technology and that is why the invention of certain tools and equipment have helped achieve big things.

Science and technology are forms of knowledge utilized for different purposes within society. This collateral set of courses should be chosen in consultation with the program director to provide the foundation needed to engage STS studies issues in which that discipline is implicated. The Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program (STPP) is a research, teaching, and outreach program of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
