Science and technology are forms of knowledge utilized for different purposes within society. Students in the Department of Science, Technology and Mathematics can choose our Pre-Medicine Program, apply for scholarships funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation or work at off-campus internships through collaborations with programs at Duke University, Tufts University and James Madison University.
Capturing Change in Science, Technology, and Innovation assesses and provides recommendations regarding the need for revised, refocused, and newly developed indicators of STI activities that would enable NCSES to respond to changing policy concerns. The technology that we develop not only helps us in our everyday lives, it also helps scientists increase human knowledge even further.
The history of science as knowledge dates back from ancient times when natural philosophers such as Thales of Miletus and Democritus would observe and theorize about the occurrences in the natural world. Emphasis theme requirements stipulate students take courses from at least two different disciplines in order to examine and evaluate the world around them from a scientific perspective.
Marshall Shepherd is a professor of atmospheric sciences and geography at the University of Georgia and former president of the American Meteorological Society. A gender study of computer science majors at Carnegie-Mellon University (one of the preeminent computer science programs in the country) found that, overall, male students come equipped with much better computer skills than female students.

Edited by Dr. Leigh Winfrey, Fusion Science and Technology (FST) is the leading source of information on fusion plasma physics and plasma engineering, fusion plasma enabling science and technology, fusion nuclear technology and material science, fusion applications, fusion design and system studies. The personal and social aspects of science are emphasized increasingly in the progression from science as inquiry standards to the history and nature of science standards. Also examines scientific ethics, public attitudes toward science, science-society interactions, and case studies of scientific controversies.
Our coverage comprises authoritative, highly accessible information on the very latest terminology, concepts, theories, techniques, people, and organizations relating to all areas of science and technology—from astronomy, engineering, physics, computer science, and mathematics, to life and earth sciences, chemistry, environmental science, biology, and psychology.
Dr. Suman Seth is a recipient of the 2017-2018 Stephen and Margery Russell Distinguished Teaching Award. As our networked world is already transforming these dynamics, gaining rapid insight to trends in technology and innovation as they unfold, and how public policy may affect them positively is critical to contributing to the challenges of our times.
