Curiosity Makes You Smarter

By integrating four bibliographies—the Isis Current Bibliography of the History of Science, the Current Bibliography in the History of Technology, the Bibliografia Italiana di Storia della Scienza and the Wellcome Library for the History and Understanding of Medicine—this resource offers outstanding value for interdisciplinary research. The collection extends from the earliest journals (of the Accademia del Cimento, the Royal Society of London, and the Académie Royale des Sciences in the 17th century) to the significant titles of the late nineteenth century (Philosophical Magazine, Annalen der Physik, etc.).

Through rigorous courses, a variety of electives, and a final thesis, students gain an understanding of the technical and social dimensions of science and technology, become better-informed citizens as they hone critical interdisciplinary-research, writing, and communication skills.

Science contributes to technology in at least six ways: (1) new knowledge which serves as a direct source of ideas for new technological possibilities; (2) source of tools and techniques for more efficient engineering design and a knowledge base for evaluation of feasibility of designs; (3) research instrumentation, laboratory techniques and analytical methods used in research that eventually find their way into design or industrial practices, often through intermediate disciplines; (4) practice of research as a source for development and assimilation of new human skills and capabilities eventually useful for technology; (5) creation of a knowledge base that becomes increasingly important in the assessment of technology in terms of its wider social and environmental impacts; (6) knowledge base that enables more efficient strategies of applied research, development, and refinement of new technologies.

The converse impact of technology on science is of at least equal importance: (1) through providing a fertile source of novel scientific questions and thereby also helping to justify the allocation of resources needed to address these questions in an efficient and timely manner, extending the agenda of science; (2) as a source of otherwise unavailable instrumentation and techniques needed to address novel and more difficult scientific questions more efficiently.

The Science, Technology, & Patents Department

Physics is the branch of science pertaining to the study of different forms of matter, their properties, interactions, and transformations, etc. These courses, appropriate to STS studies, are offered by various departments. Faculty from more than a dozen different disciplines within and without the sciences participate in Science, Technology, and Society. This Journal is published quarterly by the Tire Society, Inc., an Ohio not-for-profit corporation whose objective is to increase and disseminate knowledge of the science and technology of tires.

Readings seminar on selected themes and topics in science, technology, and society. Technology is the use of scientific knowledge to create new things. About 85 per cent of the funds meant for science and technology are given by the government, though the private sector are contributing towards the development of this sector, it’s still minimum compared to what the government is contributing.

Science, Technology And Values

The STS Program at Brown University brings together faculty and students who are interested in the construction, operation, and dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge. Science, technology, and society In the mid- to late-1960s, student and faculty social movements in the U.S., UK, and European universities helped to launch a range of new interdisciplinary fields (such as women’s studies ) that were seen to address relevant topics that the traditional curriculum ignored.

People, who are already having a Master ‘s degree but want to pursue further studies in information technology, can also opt for this course. Technological optimism 39 – The opinion that technology has positive effects on society and should be used in order to improve the welfare of people.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, East Asian Science, Technology and Society: An International Journal (EASTS) aims to bring together East Asian and Western scholars from the fields of science, technology, and society (STS). Science may drive technological development, by generating demand for new instruments to address a scientific question, or by illustrating technical possibilities previously unconsidered. Chemistry is the branch of science pertaining to the study of the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter, especially those of atomic and molecular systems.
